The Discworld series by Terry Pratchett

I started going through these last year, and they’re nearly all hilarious and delightful. They're like if Douglas Adams wrote fantasy comedy instead of science fiction comedy, but there are several dozen of them, comprising a variety of connected sub-series (broken down visually here), which can be a little imposing at first. But there are very few overarching plot threads between books even within the same sub-series (which are connected mainly just by returning to the same characters, not by continuing a single story), so it’s not as big a lift as it looks at first, and they’re easy and enjoyable reads.

There are a lot of suggestions out there for what order to read them in, but mine would be: Start with Small Gods (a stand-alone book that takes place probably a couple thousand years before most of the others) and Guards! Guards! (the first of the City Watch sub-series). You’ll know at that point whether this is for you. If you're hooked, then just go back and read the rest in publication order. If you find that you're mostly liking only some of the sub-series (or just prefer to read them that way), then you can use the visual guide to go through just those in order.
